I have just finished this cushion cover today:
I love foxes (they make regular appearances in my garden), I think they are very decorative animals, certainly for my cushions! 🙂 I find the process of the cushion creation quite engaging – how the idea is born, how the main figure is being surrounded by decorative elements, then the colour scheme…
Little details, like these tiny beads on the oak leaves, sometimes come to mind in the process of sewing. Every little stitch is done by hand so I have lots of time to think about the design.
And then everything is done and all of sudden it looks almost perfect – or at least exactly how I wanted it to look!

That fox who made a habit of coming to my garden for his regular breakfast and dinner, decided to bring along his girlfriend:
My daughter and I named the original fox Felix. Now we have to name his friend too!
I began my new project this week – making 3 cushion covers with different foxes but united with some common motif/design… Or that’s the idea anyway.
And then guess what happened?
A fox started coming to my garden!
At first he ate some bread I left on the grass for the birds…
Now he comes regularly, twice a day, every day and expects me to feed him!
Which I obligingly do.
We named him Felix. He is so cute! He just comes into my garden and waits patiently for me to throw some food to him, then he leaves for a couple of minutes – presumably eating the food – and enters again! Until he is satisfied, lol.
Does he know that I am making those cushions or what? Is it like “you are using my images so pay for it”, something like royalties 🙂 ?
I think it is a bit mystic, don’t you? 🙂
For me making my appliqued cushions is an art.
Someone would laugh, no doubt, – art, really?! It’s only small pieces of fabric attached to a bigger piece of fabric.
Well, not so for me.
It all starts with looking for an idea. What should I make? What animal? What colour scheme? What background? What additional details? All this is important for the future cushion!
Then I have to decide on the order of working the fabrics, sizes, cutting out the details, etc.
Now I can start!
Mind you, at this stage it doesn’t look very promising 🙂
Still not all that interesting, is it?
How about now?
